HERB Puppet (Fall 2015)
60-499 Indepedent Study, Carnegie Mellon University
The HERB Puppet is a posable, 3D-printed, seven-jointed controller designed to interface with the Personal Robotics Lab's HERB for use in dramatic performances. The project began with friendly talks over summer break with faculty and students working in the Personal Robotics Laboratory on how to make HERB more interactive and easier to control. We concluded that a puppet, an scaled "voodoo doll" of sorts, could be used to control the joint states of the Home Exploring Robotic Butler. The first revision of the puppet was made during Summer Break. With the second revision, new features were successfully implemented, including superior wire routing, a slightly larger size, buttons and servo pigtail connectors. Additional features for future revisions may include even better wire routing, stronger potentiometers, stronger friction pads and possibly a larger size.
